Benefits of breast cancer screening thought to be exaggerated

Stuart Bramley, a partner within Tozers medical negligence team specialising in missed cancer claims, comments on this article in today's Mail online.

"As someone who has advised many women considering legal action because their breast tumours were overlooked, some due to negligent care, I find this article troubling. Although I only see the few instances where screening has failed to identify cancer, those claims disguise the fact that breast screening is one of the national successes in the NHS and the suggestion that this should be restricted or stopped because of a risk of over-diagnosis will be insulting to the many women whose lives have been saved by this intervention. It is interesting to contrast the views of the recognised experts with those of a Danish surgeon with a book to sell."
